# ヅ — katakana “zu”

ヅ is the katakana character for the sound “zu”. It is written with 5 strokes, and in hiragana the same sound is づ.

- Reading: zu
- Strokes: 5
- Hiragana: づ

## How ヅ sounds

ヅ is ツ with dakuten (゛): tsu becomes zu.
Sounds the same as ず. It is rare: it appears when つ is voiced, as in みかづき (mikazuki, a crescent moon), or after another つ, as in つづく (tsuzuku, to continue).
Almost never used: words spell this sound with ズ.
