# ヂ — katakana “ji”

ヂ is the katakana character for the sound “ji”. It is written with 5 strokes, and in hiragana the same sound is ぢ.

- Reading: ji
- Strokes: 5
- Hiragana: ぢ

## How ヂ sounds

ヂ is チ with dakuten (゛): chi becomes ji.
Sounds the same as じ. It is rare: it appears when ち is voiced, as in はなぢ (hanaji, a nosebleed), or after another ち, as in ちぢむ (chijimu, to shrink).
Almost never used: words spell this sound with ジ.
